Dr Lidia Badarnah
Senior Lecturer in Architecture
Lidia is an architect, educator, and researcher. Her work contributes to an emerging body of research that seeks to redefine environmental design in architecture through mimicking natural systems (i.e. biomimetics), changing approaches from conventional separated building systems to adaptive and integrated solutions and methods for enhanced sustainability and resilience in architecture. Lidia’s research has developed at internationally leading institutions (Technion, TUDelft, MIT, Cardiff University), where she has received competitive fellowships and awards. She carried out her postdoctoral studies at the Building Technology Lab at MIT on biomimetic solutions to improve the thermal performance of insulation materials and systems. She has been invited to give talks and workshops nationally and internationally (e.g. Paris LA Villette, The Nature of Design (KTN, Innovate UK), University of Leeds); and a teaching seminar at EmTech at the Architectural Association London, investigating patterns of behaviour in social insect colonies (such as bees) for the development of adaptive solutions for buildings.
