Autistic Friendly Cities
Author Angharad Davies
Autism is a hidden disability, which affects a people and their family’s daily life; work, shopping, visiting spaces due to sensory overloading, leading to isolation.
The city of Bristol claims to be an Autism friendly city, but through research we have found that the autistic community strongly disagree. The aim of this proposal is to analyse the city centre to understand what may cause meltdowns in the city centre using sensors and a stress detecting algorithm with Arduino and Java, enabling us to map out an ideal sensory walk. This will enable us to analyse cities from a sensory perspective and do further adaptations to the research to analyse other elements of the city in the future.
