Dr Merate Barakat

Programme Leader
Senior Lecturer in Computational Architecture

Merate is an AIA architect, pervasive media designer, and academic researcher. She has identified and works towards filling the gap of readily available design concepts, metrics and tools to integrate acoustic sensory data into the architectural practice design flow. She received her PhD from the Architectural Association (AA) School in London. Merate is a SWCTN Data Fellow looking at merging digital research with the perceptual investigation, to understand human response to the sonic character of space: How do we recognise our environment? How does that spatial recognition aid the user to navigate, claim territory, and define citizenship? And what is the impact of our current soundscape on the environment? Dr Barakat is currently Co-Leading the Connected Everything II | EPSRC project Embedded Intelligent Empathy.
